Eventbrite Releases ‘Niche to Meet You’ Summer Dating Report Offering Insights Into Today’s Dating Scene
Event management website, Eventbrite, has released a new report suggesting a transition from online to offline dating for Gen Z and Millennial daters.
According to the report, the last year has seen a notable rise in speed dating and singles events organised through Eventbrite, which it suggests are the result of young singles seeking more face-to-face interactions in the face of online dating fatigue.
Putting the transition from online to offline dating down to a desire for more in-person connections around shared interests, the research found that 45% of Gen Z and 35% of Millennial daters consider a lack of shared interests one of their biggest dating obstacles. Safety was another top concern playing a role in the transition, with 47% of those choosing offline dating over online saying they believed it reduces the risk of someone hiding their true identity.
A notable 69% of Millennials surveyed said they preferred in-person dating because it feels more genuine than dating apps and online dating sites, with the research suggesting a move away from traditional meeting places like bars and parties towards hobby-based and social hangouts instead.
“Young singles are diving into their passions and exploring all sorts of niche activities, hoping to connect with someone who shares their interests, but ultimately, they’re just out there doing things they love, no matter the outcome,” shared Roseli Ilano, Head of Community at Eventbrite.
“It’s been amazing to see the variety of events people are into, from book clubs to kintsugi pottery and brewing classes. And we’re so grateful for our incredible community of event creators who make all these experiences possible, ensuring there’s something for everyone, no matter how niche their interests may be.”
The ‘Niche to Meet You’ report comes as Eventbrite announced it is making it easier for singles to meet in person by introducing a dedicated page on its site for singles and dating events. To encourage more IRL connections, the events and ticketing service has partnered with We Met IRL, specialists in singles events in NYC, to launch ‘Niche to Meet You IRL’, a free summer event series for singles in NYC. Launching on 19th June, the series of in-person events will see potential partners bond and make meaningful connections over activities like pizza tours and cheese tasting.
