Tinder is set to introduce a new feature designed to connect US students as they travel. ‘Spring Break’ mode will enable stickers on Tinder U profiles, highlighting specific destinations such as “Miami 2019”.
The mode is activated by engaging with the Spring Break card, which appears in the profile deck. There are over 20 party spots to choose from, as well as a “Staycation” option.
Example profiles show university badges in the bottom left of profiles and planned vacations in the top right.
Match Group’s flagship says that in the past, swiping increased 100X in certain locations during Spring Break.
The Tinder blog reads: “Enter: Spring Break mode. Tbh, we’ve been in Spring Break mode for months — and thanks to Tinder U, you can join us in the ultimate pre-game where you can match with others headed to the same vacation destination as you.
“And don’t worry, we’re not here to sell you a villa on the beach or unload a surplus of cheese sandwiches — we’re just here to help you find fellow Spring Breakers while your decision-making skills are still in topnotch form.”
The seasonal mode will begin to roll out on March 4th. Users can feature the stickers on their profiles until the end of the month.
“Spring Break, like Tinder, is a staple for many college students across the country,” said Jenny Campbell, CMO at Tinder.
“We’ve historically seen huge upticks in Tinder usage during Spring Break in these destinations, and we are excited to give users the unique experience to connect before they pack their bags.”
In November, Tinder U unleashed Rivalry Week. The feature allows students to match with singles at rival universities.
At the beginning of this year, Tinder reaffirmed its commitment to engaging late-teen consumers with the advertisement “Adulting Can Wait”. The high-energy video rolled out in India around the same time as Bumble’s career and family-focused “#EqualNotLoose” campaign.
