Watch Fantastic Talk About How Mobile Is Eating The World, by Benedict Evans
Benedict Evans from Andreessen Horowitz has given a fantastic talk about how mobile is eating the world.
The mobile expert says that there is no point in drawing a distinction between the future of technology and the future of mobile, because “they are the same. In other words, technology is now outgrowing the tech industry.”
With the huge growth of mobile – by 2020, he predicts 80% of adults on earth will have a smartphone – businesses will become so reliant on technology, they will no longer be known as tech businesses.
As he says – Airbnb is not really a tech company, it is a travel company built using new technology.
Evans has some fascinating graphs and stats in the 14 minute talk – such as WhatsApp now does 7.2tr messages a year, compared to the 7.5tr global SMS messages a year, with only 30 engineers.
Evans is a partner at Andreessen Horowitz, who have invested in Facebook, Skype and Twitter.
He has a weekly newsletter, detailing everything you need to know in mobile, which has 24k subscribers.
