A recent article on Wired looks at the origins of the modern dating fraud, and explains how users can spot tell-tale signs of a fake online dating profile.

Brian Barrett speaks to Dan Winchester, co-founder of online dating fraud detection company Scamalytics, the well-known industry platform dedicated to eradicating scamming behaviour on online dating platforms.

Winchester reveals that while millions of scam accounts are created each month, there are some clear grammatical signs – as well as other profile traits – that can help people detect if they talking to a real person.

During the interview, he explains that looking at someone’s grammar, use of current events and noticing when popular scamming phrases are used are all good ways to help singles steer clear of becoming victims of fraud.
