People Media, an online dating subsidiary of US media conglomerate IAC has just taken the URL TrumpPeopleMeet.com off the market, in a move to protect its own brand.
The company already owns a number of sites with similar variations of the “PeopleMeet” theme, including BlackPeopleMeet, ItalianPeopleMeet, OurTime, DemocraticPeopleMeet and RepublicanPeopleMeet.
And with the launch of the dating site for supporters of the Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, BernieSingles, back in February, IAC clearly thought that someone might make the move to create a Trump-focused dating site.
BernieSingles was built by 19-year-old Arizona State University Political Science student Colten Caudle, who decided to create the dating site after the success of his Facebook group Bernie Sanders’ Dank Meme Stash.
However despite the gap in the market for such a service, IAC has made it clear that it has no current plans to take the site online.
A representative for IAC told TechInsider: “We absolutely have no intention of launching TrumpPeopleMeet.com,” adding that the URL was purchased as nothing but a holding.
If you attempt to access the site now, you are greeted with a message saying it is currently unable to be reached.
The current US presidential candidate race has caught the attention of a number of popular dating sites, with some even adding new features in an effort to get their users more involved in politics.
Female-focused app Bumble took inspiration from the race, adding a politically-themed feature that lets users show support for a certain candidate with Facebook-style profile themes.
And last month, Tinder teamed with Rock the Vote to add “Swipe the Vote”, an in-app poll designed to help singles find their perfect political match.
