Last week, Instagram announced a new way for advertisers to promote their brand on the social media.
They have introduced what they call “carousel ads” – which lets brands have a number of swipeable images, rather than just one.
Users simply swipe left to see more images, additional information, or a link to a brand’s website.
These will also be the first Instagram ads to be clickable.
This allows advertisers such as dating sites to promote their brand, or a specific offer, on Instagram and add a link that takes users directly to their site.
In a blog post, they explained: “One way to look at it is carousel ads bring the potential of multi-page print campaigns to mobile phones — with the added benefit of taking people to a website to learn more.
“For instance, a fashion company could use the carousel to deconstruct the individual products in a ‘look.’ A car company might share an array of different features of a vehicle and provide a link to learn more about the new model. Or, an advertiser could showcase how multiple ingredients come together to make a delicious meal.”
The new format is being rolled out on a limited basis, as they test and try different variations on the format.
