Tinder has hired Amazon’s Jerry Heinz to head up engineering.

Heinz was Amazon’s lead engineer for their cloud-based app streaming service AppStream.

According to TechCrunch, Heinz will oversee a team of 30 at Tinder.

During IAC’s second quarter earnings call, the Chairman of Match Group, Gregory Blatt, said Tinder will be monetised by the end of the year.

Blatt said if you monetised Tinder at the same rate as OkCupid in North America and Europe, the dating app could make $75m EBITDA in its first year.

The IAC executive also revealed that they would monetise the app “like our other sites”, with a combination of recurring revenue, cart revenue and advertising.

A week ago, Valleywag reported a rumour that venture capital firm Benchmark might soon close a $50m to $75m investment round in Tinder.

If true, this would value Tinder between $750m and $1bn.

Speaking about the appointment of Heinz, Tinder CEO Sean Rad said they needed someone “who had truly seen scale”.

Heinz said they are looking to “keep the system up and available and the user experience snappy.”
