New Once Feature Tracks Your Heartbeat When Browsing Matches

Fitbit - Heartbeat feature

Once has just announced an innovative new integration with two sports technology brands, to help users work out just how much they like someone’s profile, by monitoring their heartbeat.

The app, which generates one match every day for its users, has teamed up with Fitbit and Android Wear to provide a new heartbeat function, that will track how a user’s heart responds to a potential match.

The feature works for both Fitbit and Android Wear users, who can connect their devices to the app to see when their heart rate increases.

The team behind the dating app believes the addition of this feature will help users make a better informed decision about whether or not to start a conversation with someone.

Once, which has over 100,000 active users in the UK alone, is the first dating app to integrate this kind of “heartbeat” technology into its matching system, combining it with its one-match-a-day algorithm, which is complimented by the thoughts of its “dedicated team of human matchmakers”.

The founder & CEO of Once, Jean Meyer said: “We launched Once to fill a clear void in the serious dating space – to combine what is great about human matchmaking with the latest innovations in mobile dating.

“Our research shows that a positive match will have an impact on the user’s heart rate and we thought it would be an excellent idea to integrate wearable technology into our app offering.

“Our new Heartbeat feature gives the user a positive indication of a potential match. It also helps our human matchmakers to better understand what type of person triggers a positive reaction based on first sight.”

The overall matching process on Once has not changed, however.

Singles using the heartbeat feature will still receive their daily match at midday, and if both parties are interested, they are put in contact.

The app also offers a premium service, Once Infinite, which starts from £7.99 a month.

Once Infinite allows users to hand pick their match for the day, “charm” their matches and view additional information about their matches’ activity.

This additional information includes the last time they viewed their match’s profile and when they were last online, which according to Once, helps users pick the best time to start a conversation.
