Obama is Bad Online Date In New Republican Ad

The US Republican party calls Obama a bad online date in their newest ad.

The TV spot, from Americans for Shared Prosperity, plays off the “he didn’t look like his profile” trope to convince voters to break up with Barack Obama, and by association, his party.

“In 2008, I fell in love. His online profile made him seem so perfect: smart, handsome, charming, articulate, all the right values. I trusted him. But by 2012, our relationship was in trouble, but I stuck with it, because he promised he’d be better. He’s great at promises.”

The woman talks about how their relationship soured, saying her boyfriend was “in my emails and text messages, spying on me but ignoring real threats.”

The ad, which is airing in North Carolina, has been criticised by some who say it plays off the NFL’s recent domestic abuse scandal, by having a women talking about staying with an abusive boyfriend.
