People who post about their relationship online tend to be more insecure about their love life, according to a new study.
Published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, the research found that those with high anxiety towards their relationship wanted to remind people about it, whereas those who were more content did not crave relationship visibility.
For the study, entitled “Can You Tell That I’m in a Relationship? Attachment and Relationship Visibility on Facebook”, researchers got 108 students to keep a diary of their relationship for two weeks.
They found that: “on a daily basis, when people felt more insecure about their partner’s feelings, they tended to make their relationships visible. These studies highlight the role of relationships in how people portray themselves to others.”
