Jiayuan Appoint Weibo CEO to Board
Chinese online dating site Jiayuan has appointed Weibo’s CEO to their board of directors.
Gaofei Wang has been the CEO of Weibo since February this year, and Senior Vice President of Sina, Weibo’s parent company, since May 2013.
Weibo is a microblogging service, often called China’s Twitter, which has around 67.5m active daily users as of August this year.
After joining Sina in 2000, Wang spent eight years in the company’s mobile division, serving as general manager for six.
Jiayuan’s appointment of Wang is designed to help strengthen their mobile strategy, which has become their main focus, because of competition from chat apps like Momo and WeChat, which younger demographics use for hookups and dating.
Mr. Yongqiang Qian, co-chairman of Jiayuan’s board, said:
“Mr. Wang’s extensive experience in mobile products will greatly benefit the Company as we shift our business towards mobile platforms, which accounted for 64% of all logins to Jiayuan.com as of June 30, 2014.”
Wang replaces independent director Jianzhang Liang on the audit committee of the board.
Liang keeps his position as director, and member of the compensation committee.
