Blued Starts Online Dating Safety Awareness Campaign in India

Blued has started a new awareness campaign on social media to encourage people to stay as safe as possible while dating online.

The activation is specifically targeted at the Indian LGBTQ community and includes in-app updates to prioritise safety. It was inspired by the increasing popularity of online dating platforms in the country, but the fact that users were relatively uneducated about the risks.

Sanyam Sharma, the Marketing Director for Blued India, explained in a statement: “We live in a society that is internet-savvy yet not safe, we wanted to change this narrative. Since Blued is an app for the community and by the community, we thought of leveraging our social media reach to educate users and ensure that they find love in a safe way.

“We believe our inbuilt safety prompts and features will help users make informed decisions when it comes to online dating.”

Blued added a carousel of images to its Instagram page, showcasing some of the most important ‘Do’s’ and ‘Don’ts’ of modern dating.

These include always meeting someone for the first time in a public area, telling friends and family where they are going for a first date, and never giving out any of their personal information to someone they’ve only just matched with.

The dating and social app ran its #LiveYourPride campaign during Pride Month in June. It  helped the global community celebrate while some areas were still battling the effects of the pandemic and observing social distancing.
