Bumble Unveils Major Product Updates
The Bumble dating app has unveiled a series of significant product updates, including new Opening Moves, expanded dating intentions, and improved AI algorithms. This update is part of the platform’s ongoing mission “to build the *next* chapter of dating that puts women first”.
Announced across social media, Bumble has announced a number of new features to boost the user experience, as well as a refreshed product look. The dating app has been mysteriously teasing this major announcement across its social channels in the lead up to this significant update.
Included in today’s product update is:
Opening Moves: For many years, Bumble’s unique proposition for women has been the ability to start conversations and sit firmly in the driver’s seat. However, this update will now allow women to set a prompt / question for new matches, called an Opening Move.
This allows their match (a man in different-gender connections) to start an engaging conversation based on that prompt. For non-binary and same-gender connections, either person can set and respond to an Opening Move.
Why the change? Bumble explained that while women value equality in their romance, almost 9 in 10 shared that equality also means personal choice and autonomy to decide what’s right for you.
Improved AI-powered Compatibility: Bumble looks to upgrade its matching experience by improving the capabilities of its AI. The platform’s ‘For You’ algorithm has been “enhanced to deliver curated profiles tailored to your preferences and past matches”, it shared.
Furthermore, when viewing a potential match’s profile, the app will now automatically highlight common interests and shared music preferences so that daters can easily identify what they share with their counterpart.
Expanded Dating Intentions: In a previous update, Bumble enabled users to conveniently display their dating intention on their profile, whether it be a life partner or something more casual, for example.
In today’s new update, this feature has been expanded, with daters now able to select up to two intentions to display on their profile.
Refreshed Look: Bumble also announced an updated brand identity, with a new and revised logo, fonts, colours, and illustrations across the app.
Lidiane Jones, CEO of Bumble Inc, shared that “Bumble launched nearly 10 years ago with the revolutionary idea of putting the power of the first move in dating squarely in the hands of women”.
“But since then, relationships have evolved, gender dynamics have shifted, technology has rapidly advanced, and the idea of women’s empowerment has changed – and it’s time we change with it. Our mission to empower women to make meaningful connections on their terms has led us to this moment”, she explained.
“I am so proud of all of the work that we’ve done since I joined the company as CEO. This evolution is just the beginning of the exciting updates we are making to address our community’s feedback and needs, to make dating better for women, both online and offline. I’m so thankful and excited for all of the work that went into this update and look forward to the future”, Jones highlighted.
