Chapter 2: UK-Based Dating App For Widows and Widowers
After Nicky Wake’s husband passed away, she decided to start the UK’s first community and dating app for widows and widowers, called Chapter 2. There are 3.11 million widows or widowers in the UK, approximately 6.5% of the country’s population.
The platform looks to match members of this community together, stating that “widows and widowers are uniquely placed to understand the other parties’ point of view and respect their need to grieve and mourn what has gone before”.
Therefore using mainstream social connection apps “are a little like trying to find a needle in a haystack”, its website explains.
Wake herself had tried mainstream dating apps but was sent inappropriate photographs. This made her think “there had to be a better way”, she told The Mirror.
After attending support groups and social events for widows, she saw that members of the community are able to connect quickly, as “there’s an emotional shorthand there”, she explained.
The app launches on November 23rd, offering a free two month premium trial for new users.
