Consumer Spend over $500 Million on Grindr

Online dating app Grindr has hit a milestone of $500 million in consumer spend, reports data.ai. The app first launched in 2009, and is now the largest social networking app for gay, bi, trans and queer people, according to its website.

Internal reports state that in December 2021 the app had over 700,000 paying users. Overall the app has around 11 million monthly users, who spend on average 61 minutes using the app daily.

Earlier this month the app appointed a new CEO, George Arison, as it prepares to go public this year. The company is valued at $2.1 billion.

To help reach this spending milestone, Grindr offers two tiers of premium membership for users, Grindr XTRA and Grindr Unlimited.

Some of these purchasable premium features include ensuring users have zero third-party ads and accessing ‘read’ receipts on its instant messaging platform. It also allows users to make connections outside of their own region, with Grindr Unlimited offering translation services for 1 on 1 messaging.

Paying users on Grindr can also unlock extra filters to narrow down their preferences and find the ideal match. Some of these premium filters include only seeing profiles with photos, seeing relationship status, seeing users’ willingness to meet at different locations in real life, and filtering body types.
