DOWN Dating App’s Gen Z Insights

DOWN, the honest platform for dating & hookups, has seen the number of its Gen Z users double since the COVID pandemic. The platform shares its insights on this demographic, and explains why younger users are taking charge in the dating game.

In a recent blog post, the dating app shared that Gen Z now represents over 50% of its dating pool. It highlighted some of the interesting insights it found about this group.

Firstly, Gen Z prefer hooks up to dates, with 90% of the swipes generated by Gen Z men on DOWN were for hookups, rising from around 50% in 2019. Gen Z women in 2022 swiped for hookups 7 times more than they did in 2020, the platform shared.

The platform also identified that Gen Z is seeing the highest growth among matches of the same gender. From 2019 to 2022, same-gender matching rose by 800% among Gen Z.

Contrary to some popular beliefs, Gen Z is investing money and time into dating, DOWN highlighted. Comparing statistics from 2022 and 2019, Gen Z were found to be sticking around longer on the app and the number of Gen Z VIP members grew by over 80% in that time.

An important statistic is that the number of messages between matches from Gen Z messages is increasing year-on-year. This is a positive sign that Gen Z singles are taking charge of their dating life and doing things differently to previous generations.

DOWN, previously known as Bang with Friends, launched in 2013 and quickly became one of the most popular dating apps in the world.
