happn Extends Free Video Calls During UK’s Second Lockdown

Hyper-local dating app happn has offered all users in the UK free video calls during the country’s second lockdown. The offer is limited to one free call per match, lasting up to an hour.

The feature was initially rolled out to singles in June, but users only got the first five minutes of a call free, and had to pay for the time spent thereafter.

A statement has laid out the guidelines to the offer, stating that: “Video calls will be free for every first call with a Crush. This offer is limited to one call per Crush, which can only last up to one hour.

“If you have already used your first free call with your Crush, even before lockdown, you cannot benefit from this offer any more.”

happn decided to extend its free calls after it found in a recent survey that 60% of users preferred to have longer video dates.

It also suggested that 55% of singles would still be looking for love during the pandemic, but when face-to-face contact was limited, there wasn’t an option to date in a physical capacity.

The most popular first virtual dates are hosting private ‘happy hours’ and showing off their culinary skills.
