Hinge Opens ‘Designed to be Deleted’ Merchandise Store

Hinge has launched a limited edition merchandise store to sell a variety of products based on its popular ‘Designed to be Deleted’ campaign.

Most of the goods in the shop feature images of ‘Hingie’, the dating app’s animated mascot which is shown to be killed off in imaginative ways whenever someone deletes the app.

Standard products include t-shirts, baseball caps and stuffed animals, while there are some others that give a creative nod to Hingie being destroyed.

Custom printed marshmallows can be burned to make s’mores, bath bombs disintegrate to leave a lavender-scented tub and a piñata in the shape of ‘Hingie’ is encouraged to be used at a wedding, engagement or pregnancy celebration party.

Hinge’s Chief Marketing Officer Nathan Roth said in a statement: “The Hingie Shop is a response to the overwhelming amount of love Hingie has received since his debut in August.

“With the success of ‘Designed to be Deleted’, we wanted to provide members with their own way to rep or destroy Hingie, and continue getting people off the app and onto real dates.”

The most expensive item available is the ‘Delete Date’ necklace. Costing $500, the 14-carat gold and diamond piece of jewellery can be customised to commemorate the date that the owner deleted the dating app.

Since the ‘Designed to be Deleted’ campaign began in August, Hinge has seen an 18% increase in the number of users deleting the app because they’ve met someone. ‘Hingie’ has also seen success by amassing more than 150,000 followers on its Instagram page.
