Inside Meta’s Future Decentralised Social App
Meta has confirmed the development of a decentralised social app which is based around text. While it does not yet have a name, reports indicate that the new platform’s development will be managed by Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram.
TechCrunch shares that not much is known about this mysterious project except for limited reports from various sources. Publications share that the app will let users login via their Instagram account.
The project is regarded by some as Meta’s first step into building a Twitter alternative. Interestingly, the platform will support the ActivityPub protocol, which means that it may run on a network of decentralised servers.
TechCrunch highlights that Meta has started and then stopped the development of various social networking platforms including TikTok-lookalike ‘Lasso’, teen app ‘tbh’, and couples app ‘Tuned’.
