Instagram Rolls Out Live Video Globally

Instagram’s live video streaming service is now rolling out globally.

The new tool, available via Instagram Stories, was announced last November alongside a Snapchat-style disappearing private message feature.

To start a Live Video, users simply open up the in-app camera by swiping right across the home screen and clicking “Start Live Video”.

When you end your live stream, the video with disappear from the photo-sharing platform – something that differentiates it from Facebook’s own live streaming feature.

For Instagram users simply looking to view popular live videos, these can be discovered in the Explore tab under Top Live.

And after launching across the US in December, the live video feature is now being made available to all users of Instagram over the next week, by updating to version 10.0 of the app.

Earlier this week, App Annie released a report detailing the rapid rise of the live streaming space in Asia over the past few years.

In China alone, the live streaming market is predicted to be worth a whopping $5bn by the end of 2017.

And with Momo seeing remarkable revenue gains with its live streaming business last year – 319% YoY increase in Q3 – a number of social/dating companies seem keen to follow suit in 2017.
