LGBTQ Organisation Launches New Ad On Grindr During US Conservative Political Action Conference

The Human Rights Campaign launched a new advert on Grindr during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) last week, aiming to raise awareness of LGBTQ discrimination.

The Human Rights Campaign is an organisation that looks to prevent discrimination against the LGBTQ community.

And during CPAC – a gathering of Republican supporters in the USA – the organisation decided to release a new advert on gay dating app Grindr.

The advert was placed on the home screen of the Grindr app and read: “Attention CPAC attendees. You can’t be with us in the hotel room and against us in the CPAC ballroom”.

The Human Rights Campaign also set a geo-location for the ad, making it visible to all Grindr users near the conference, which was being held in Maryland.

It seems that the advert’s aim was to make closeted Republicans think twice about their views the LGBTQ community and be mindful of their response to related issues raised at the conference.

Reddit users have also commented on the ad, largely showing appreciation of the Human Rights Campaign’s work.

One user called AbruptlyBlue said: “Good to see. I’m tired of allowing politicians attacking the gay community in public and privately having same-sex relationships. It is about time they are shamed publicly.”

In July last year, it was announced that Grindr usage had spiked during the Democratic and Republican national conventions.

Over the course of the Democrat convention, the dating app said it saw usage rates spike by 148% and at the Republican National Convention, Grindr’s rates increasing by 66%.

The new advert also comes just days after the Trump administration revoked guidelines that said transgender students should be able to use the bathrooms that match their identity, rather than their birth sex.
