Match Group Legal Counsel Wins ‘General Counsel of the Year’

Match Group Legal Counsel Jared Sine has been presented with an Outstanding Corporate Counsel’s General Counsel of the Year Award.

The prize was specific to companies with a large legal department, an issue that Sine addressed when he first joined the online dating umbrella in July 2016.

He told the Houston Chronicle“The legal department was woefully understaffed and we realized that we needed to build a world class team of attorneys and paralegals.

“We had about 10 lawyers. We now have 35, including attorneys in Japan, Dublin, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.”

He also identified data privacy as another problem, one which he immediately set out to rectify. Match Group owns more than 45 dating brands and Sine specially developed a program to ensure all of them meet global GDPR standards.

Angela Zambrano, a partner at Chicago-based law firm Sidley Austin, wrote“In just two short years, Jared has transformed the Match legal department into a world-class operation.

“Jared innately understands where to put his focus and when his very capable team can handle difficult issues with minimal supervision.

Sine has overseen Match Group’s ongoing patent infringement legal battle with Bumble. Most recently, the two parties agreed for all evidence from the lawsuit to be kept confidential to prevent any trade secrets from being mistakenly leaked.

Since he joined, Match Group has seen its valuation climb from $3 billion to over $15.5 billion.
