Match Offers Restaurant Discounts to New Members

Match.com has partnered with a restaurant discount service to help UK-based singles save money when going on dates.

The first 10,000 people that sign up for a six-month premium subscription to the dating platform will receive a free one-year membership, usually worth £79.99, with Gourmet Society.

Users receive discount tokens which give them up to 25% off at popular high-street restaurants, such as Frankie & Benny’s, Pizza Express and Cafe Rouge, as well as numerous independent outlets.

The collaboration was launched after Match.com found out that the average person spends £60 on food and drinks when they go on a date. It also comes during the festive period; a time when people are keeping an eye on how much they spend.

Many other online dating companies have been looking at ways to help matches get together for dinner.

Match Group subsidiary Hinge teamed up with OpenTable in October to create the ‘Date Night Guide’. It shows couples the best venues to go to for an affordable first date, a marriage anniversary or anything in between.

Meanwhile, Bumble launched its ‘Spots’ initiative at the end of last year which verifies locations that are ideal for a first meeting. Special napkins and coasters have conversation starters written on them, and the staff members are trained to help couples if the interaction looks awkward.
