New Details Emerge on Atraf Data Breach

Atraf, an Israeli LGBTQ dating app, was hacked in 2021 and the personal data of its users was held at ransom. New reports claim that the data of over 660,000 users has since been leaked online, with passwords, conversations, and addresses being exposed.

In 2021, hacking group The Black Shadow breached the cybersecurity perimeter of LGTBQ dating app Atraf. It then attempted to get ransom money for the personal data they acquired, asking for $1 million in digital currency, The Times of Israel reported.

However, this was not the end of the story. Hackread has published a new report which highlighted that the Atraf database has since been leaked on online hacking forums. Analysis of this data highlights that information from over 660,000 dating app accounts were leaked.

While data leaks from Atraf have been posted online before, this latest incident included more passwords and personal information related to the daters affected.

Hackread’s analysis found that user data including passwords, IP addresses, dates of birth, sexual orientation, location information, and direct message conversations were all leaked, originating from the initial 2021 hacking.

The publication advises Atraf users to change their passwords immediately, as well as be extra cautious when opening suspicious emails or clicking links.

The dating app has since released a new version of its platform, promising “the industry’s most advanced and enhanced security measures to ensure your personal information is always protected”.
