New Sexual Health App Looks to Revolutionise Hookups
Calmara is a new sexual health app that can analyse an image of a penis to detect visible signs of sexually transmitted diseases and infections. Its developers are already exploring how the tool can be integrated into dating apps to support safer hookups.
‘Find Love, Not STIs’ is the defining slogan of Calmara, a new app that enables users to conduct sexual health screenings and receive the results almost immediately.
Acting as the first line of defence for sexually transmitted diseases & infections, users are asked to consensually submit a photo of the penis in question. The platform’s AI will then analyse the image, identifying visual signs of these issues, and giving users the results in seconds.
While the platform can’t detect asymptomatic cases, and is not recommended for use on other body parts, it aims to be a useful tool for daters, especially Gen Z. “Calmara stands at the forefront of a cultural shift towards greater transparency and responsibility in dating”, it shared.
The platform highlighted that there are over 60 million online daters in the USA, but that 1 in 5 Americans have an STI, and that 50% of all new STI cases are found among individuals aged 15-24.
“Calmara isn’t just a STI screening tool; it’s about changing the narrative around sexual wellness, making it accessible, less intimidating, and a natural part of modern dating”, says Mei Ling Lu, CEO of Calmara and Co-Founder of HeHealth.
“We’ve received an overwhelmingly positive response from the community, and we’re currently in discussions about integrating Calmara directly into dating apps. This collaboration could redefine how people approach dating and sexual health, offering an unprecedented layer of transparency and safety”, Lu added.
Calmara harnesses AI technology from men’s health company HeHealth to bring its sexual health screenings to life.
