Dave Wilby, 35, began talking to his victim on Plenty of Fish during the afternoon of the 28th December last year.
During the conversation, Wilby asked the single mother out for a drink – an offer she refused.
Unable to accept this rejection, Wilby turned up to his victim’s address in Swaffham, Norfolk at around 7pm the same evening.
Having knocked on the door, Wilby stated: “It’s me from Plenty of Fish,” before forcing his way into the property with the woman’s children asleep upstairs.
The woman had asked Wilby to leave on a number of occasions, however he refused and later raped her in the living room of her home.
And it has been reported that Wilby only left when one of his victim’s children disturbed him.
Detective Constable Amy Beck said: “This was a horrendous attack on a woman who was in the safety of her own home.
“It has had a profound impact on the victim who had no intention of meeting with Wilby that evening having only recently started chatting with him on Plenty of Fish.
“What makes this case even more shocking is the fact Wilby committed the offence knowing the victim’s children were upstairs.
“Such a stranger attack is extremely rare in Norfolk and we would like to commend the victim for the bravery she has shown throughout this investigation.
“We hope such a sentence will give her sense of closure, and that she can now move on more positively with her life.”
The single mother went to police after being consoled by her family and this led to Wilby’s arrest on 29th December.
Having originally denied the rape, Wilby was later found guilty at Norwich Crown Court in July and after a five day trial, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison and has also been placed on the sex offenders register for life.
