Southeast Asia Taxi App Grab Partners With Tinder To Let Users Share Rides With Celebrities

Southeast Asia taxi app Grab is giving users the chance to spend a day with famous internet celebrities, thanks to a new partnership with Tinder.

The dating app’s first partnership in Southeast Asia sees Grab add a “Meet your Match” icon to its ride-hailing platform.

Clicking the icon puts you in with a chance to share a ride with someone from Tinder’s list of internet celebrities.

The top 10 list includes YouTube star JinnyBoy, model Melissa Tan, Malaysian actress and model Venice Min and dancer Dennis Yin.

The Meet your Match campaign initially launched in Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam last week, and will be expanded to Singapore and Indonesia in April.

Starting on 24th March, the campaign saw the 10 internet personalities driving around in a GrabCar vehicle, picking up passengers between 9am and 5pm.

The celebrities then each chose a passenger they got along particularly well with to join them on an all-expenses paid outing on 26th March, whether “dining in the coolest café in the city to bungee jumping off a cliff”.

The rides were filmed and videos will be posted to the Grab Facebook page from 5th April.

Speaking about the partnership, David Wyler, VP of Global Partnerships at Tinder said: “Tinder is a platform for meeting new people. Our simple user interface makes it easy to meet people anywhere.

“We wanted to provide an opportunity for our users to connect with some of their favourite social media stars and still get to their next meeting on time. Grab is the perfect partner to make this happen.”

Since launching in Malaysia five years ago, Grab has generated 36m downloads, raised $1.4bn in funding and has a 70% market share.
