Spark Networks has launched a brand new dating app in select cities across Canada.
The product, which is simply called ‘Spark’ is now available on iOS in Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg, with an Android release scheduled for the autumn.
Spark is a “creativity-focused” app that is designed to be different from other mainstream offerings. It’s for singles that are looking for a platform that allows them to express themselves and make matches based on creative-connections.
User profiles are based around the concept of “frames”, which include photo filters and interactive questions to help everyone have an account that is unique to them.
Ages also won’t be displayed on profiles, as Spark tries to form relationships based on personality ahead of demographics. The team believes that online daters put too much emphasis on ages and that can often lead to them passing on quality matches.
Project Lead Tobias Plaputta said in a statement: “We saw space in the online dating market for an app that could help people to truly customize the way in which they present themselves.
“To help our members embrace self-expression, we wanted to create a comfortable and judgment-free environment. We felt that Canada was the perfect place to achieve this. Canadian singles have a reputation for being kind yet interesting, laid-back yet adventurous. This is exactly the melting pot of traits that we were looking for.”
Spark Networks completed its acquisition of Zoosk 12 months ago, for a reported fee of $255 million. The takeover was a lifelong ambition for former CEO Jeronimo Folgueira.
