Teleport CEO Explains AI Matchmaking

Teleport is an invite-only platform that harnesses AI to matchmake eligible singles. Chad Goodman, the platform’s CEO and founder, spoke with Yahoo Finance Live to explain how the platform works and the potential of AI in the online dating industry.

The platform serves an exclusive member base, with a fee of $111 a month. Goodman explains that the matchmaking process is “entirely powered by the member themselves”.

Members can attend Teleport’s “branded sessions” to understand themselves better, discovering their own love languages, interests, and passions. They also look through users to inform the platform of what they want in their perfect partner.

Users will be able view five daily profiles, and will receive three optimised recommendations for matches every week. However, the number of ‘likes’ they’ll be able to send is limited.

When asked whether he’s concerned by big players in the online dating industry adopting AI services of their own, Goodman shared that he isn’t worried. After spending 8 years in the online dating industry, he shares that the industry overall is “actually designed to keep you single.”

Chadman explained that “The business models that created the industry– Match.com, Bumble, you name it– they profit off of your attention, not your intention. They need you to constantly swipe. And they are in the business of keeping you hooked, not in the business of finding you love.”

Teleport has created a new model, one that is more expensive, but that is clear about what users are getting in return, he said.

Looking ahead, Goodman shares that Teleport will be focusing on a smaller target market while it develops a product and algorithm that can successfully predict who users are looking for. Once that has been accomplished, the platform will open itself up to a wider demographic.
