Research Company Ranks Top US Dating Apps By App Store Reviews

As the US dating app market becomes increasingly saturated, with platforms claiming to offer the most unique and high quality services, it can be very difficult for singles to know which apps are in fact the best to use.

To help users make more informed choices about which dating apps to download, Applause‘s research group, Arc 360, has used customer rating information to analyse the state of the US dating app economy, and find out which dating apps are considered to be the best quality.

The report analysed 53 dating apps that qualified for the inaugural ARC Dating Mobile App Quality Index, by earning more than 1,000 user reviews across Google Play and the App Store.

It found that just 10 of these apps earned a quality score of 50 or above, from over 10,000 customer reviews.

Jaumo and Match Group-owned OkCupid topped the list with average scores of 79 and 62.

US Dating Apps Underperform

Yet quite surprisingly, popular app Hinge and US dating company eHarmony received some of the lowest scores for dating platforms, each scoring 22.

According to Applause Analytics, the average app quality score across almost 4m apps in the US app stores is 67 – a concerning figure for the dating apps at the bottom of the table.

During its analysis, Arc 360 found that on the whole, the 100 most popular US dating apps have room to improve their performance, and are trailing behind other apps in quality by 25 points.

Six dating brands that received over 10,000 customer rating reviews all have an average quality score of under 40.

Popular brands like Match, Zoosk, Grindr and eHarmony were among the lowest ranking dating apps in the US.

The report reads: “Unlike other app categories, dating is affected by sociology and psychology. If you meet a creep on a dating app, it may be reflected in a user’s review.

“Key elements of dating apps–signup, messaging and pictures–also play a significant role in dating app reviews.

“Plenty of opportunity exists for development, QA and product teams at lifestyle and social companies to raise their bar for app quality and reliability while navigating finicky matters of the heart.”
