Video Social App Houseparty Sees Large Activity Increase
Recent data shows that Houseparty has seen 70 times more activity during the COVID-19 lockdown compared to what it is used to seeing. It has brought on more that 50 million users in the past month.
The social media app allows users to engage in video calls with friends and family. It has also emerged as a popular tool for singles to engage in virtual dates with people they have met on dating apps.
Journalist Kurt Wagner writes in Bloomberg: “[Houseparty] has been the most-downloaded social networking app in Apple’s U.S. App Store every day since March 20th – ahead of Facebook Inc.’s trio of Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp.
“It was the second-most downloaded app of any category over Easter weekend behind only Zoom, according to App Annie.”
Houseparty became the number one ‘Social’ app in 82 countries and the number one app overall in 16 countries.
Houseparty sayu users have engaged with the app for significantly longer session times, with the average time in conversation being more than 60 minutes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these average times have sometimes exceeded 80 minutes.
The increase in social media video usage is set to continue to grow rapidly as the lockdown restrictions continue.
