World Cup Causes Activity Spike for Tinder

Tinder has seen a huge increase in usage during the Russian World Cup.

The dating app has seen the number of matches rise by 66%. The number of right swipes has also grown by 42%.

Tinder’s Passport Service, that allows premium members to set their location to meet locals before they travel, has also seen a 24% increase in users “Passporting” to Russia.

Despite not qualifying for the tournament, Americans are using the function more than any other nationality. Britons are coming in a close second.

According to FourFourTwo, Australians are also making use of the app. One Australian fan said: Tinder in Russia is amazing. So many friendly and beautiful women who are really curious about the world and open to meeting foreigners. The language barrier can be a problem but it’s a great way to practice your Russian.”

The Moscow Times have reported that Russian women are also interested in using Tinder to meet foreign men. However, it is thought that they are more interested in forming friendships, rather than romantic relationships.

It’s unsurprising that Tinder has seen such a spike during a major sporting tournament. They saw an increased number of users during the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2018 Winter Olympics.
