Zhenai Activity Spikes During Chinese New Year

Online dating and matchmaking company Zhenai has revealed it saw a significant increase in traffic over the Chinese New Year holiday period.

For seven consecutive days Zhenai was one of the top ten most downloaded apps the country. According to App Annie, it was the second ranked dating app in China by consumer spend throughout 2018.

This recent success has been partially attributed to the introduction of a streaming feature which lets users enter video chats and engage in virtual blind dates.

More and more dating apps have been integrating video into their platforms, with the likes of Badoo and The Meet Group taking inspiration from Asian markets and introducing one-to-many live streaming modes.

The founder of Zhenai, Dr Song Li, admitted that male users of his service were likely to have more interactions if they had a higher salary, while women with a lower income were seen to be more desirable.

As with most major holidays, the Chinese New Year is a popular time for dating due to young adults spending time with their families and feeling pressured into finding a partner.

The busiest day for online dating worldwide is the first Sunday of January, otherwise known as Dating Sunday.

Elsewhere in China, a theme park in Hangzhou recently allowed its unmarried female employees an extra eight days leave to pursue their dating lives.
