Your Day:
What time do you get up?
Both daughters (one-and-a-half and just under three) wake at 6am-ish. I try to stay in bed until at least 7am but once they’re awake, I’m usually up!
Describe a typical day.
I tend to get into work around 8am. Having two businesses, a PR agency and GlobalDatingInsights.com, involves a lot of juggling (the PR agency does/will not work with any businesses in the dating space due to a perceived conflict of interest).
A typical day involves going through emails for the first hour that have come in overnight from the US, before prioritising for the day. The team at Jargon PR are 13 strong and arrive at 9am, the first 30mins are spent catching up with developments from yesterday. Being the MD of a PR agency involves a series of client calls and meetings, new business pitches and developing new services, as well as checking in with non-client facing staff, such as our Book Keeper and Marketing Manager.
Around 40% of the day is spent looking at GlobalDatingInsights.com and involves liaising with our Editor, checking in with our two reporters and at present, recruiting for someone in the US and the Asia Pacific region in order to expand our editorial content in these markets.
We are also working on our first ‘special report’. These will be issued quarterly, the first is well under way and will be released before Christmas. Since we launched, the site has gone from strength to strength, traffic consistently increases 20% week-on-week and we are currently planning a number of new features to launch in 2014.
When does your work day end?
I leave the office around 6pm and live close to our Hampshire office so I’m home within 5mins. It’s then bath time for the kids, milk and a story, followed by an episode of Pepper Pig and then supper. Work starts again at around 8.30pm for about an hour and mainly involves calls with the US.
How do you spend your weekends?
Weekends are spent with the family. Soft play areas, activity parks and fun pools are among my most frequently visited locations. Saturday nights usually involve a long relaxing dinner with my wife and Sundays are often spent with friends and frequently accompanied by a Sunday roast.
