AI Matchmaking App Orra Launches Beta in Salt Lake City
A new dating platform, Orra, has entered the market with a beta launch in Salt Lake City, Utah, aiming to offer an alternative to traditional swipe-based apps. Unlike many existing platforms, Orra emphasizes values-based matchmaking rather than superficial traits – something that many apps have been pushing for recently as users get less and less interested in the typical “swiping cycle”.
Originally announced as far back as February of this year, if not earlier, Orra is the product of two MBC graduates who came together through their previous ventures. Orra’s focus on relationship market value (or RMV) is meant to be a direct response to the sexual market value (SMV) that the creators saw being prioritised on other platforms – in other words, the core focus on physical attraction above all else.
Orra’s approach centers on creating intentional, long-term connections. Users remain anonymous until a mutual match occurs and initial correspondence is exchanged, ensuring privacy during the early stages of interaction. The app also removes the swipe mechanic, a feature common in many dating platforms that has been criticized for fostering impulsive or casual engagement.
According to the company, its matching system incorporates AI to identify compatibility based on shared core values, a factor research has linked to greater relationship satisfaction and longevity. Physical attraction is not ignored, but it is integrated alongside emotional and values-based alignment, rather than serving as the primary selection criterion.
Orra’s beta release is currently limited only to Salt Lake City, Utah, but the app may see further expansion if it succeeds at breaking into the dating industry. Given the recent heavy focus on meaningful dating over superficial connections – mostly due to dating app burnout – apps like this have a solid chance of gaining an audience that previously would have settled for more conventional dating apps like Tinder.
