Begins Revamps Matching with AI-Driven Lifestyle & Values Focus
South Korea’s Begins dating app, operated by leading career platform Saramin, has announced a major service overhaul centering AI-driven features to prioritize values, lifestyle compatibility, and deeper user insights over appearance-based matching. The AI enhancements position Begins to compete in South Korea’s crowded dating market, where users increasingly demand tools that reduce noise and foster genuine compatibility.
The update shifts Begins toward a more intentional dating experience. The new AI Profile Highlight feature analyzes user-submitted data on interests, values, and behavioral tendencies to generate concise summaries. This allows potential matches to quickly assess lifestyle alignment before deciding to connect, helping users filter based on compatibility rather than superficial traits.
Originally launched in 2025 as a safe, tendency-focused matchmaking app, Begins emphasizes verified identities (including face verification and multiple authentication steps) and a 24-hour text-only chat window before photos are revealed. The service targets professionals seeking meaningful connections aligned with personal values rather than casual swiping.
A Custom Recommendation tool enables precise searches by setting detailed preferences—such as age, body type, location, and specific traits—combined with the app’s proprietary BLOOM dating tendency index. BLOOM classifies users’ romantic values and patterns through a structured assessment, drawing on Saramin’s expertise in psychological testing and user profiling.
The overhaul also introduces AI Photo Diagnosis, which evaluates uploaded images for facial expressions, composition, and overall impression. Users receive tailored feedback to improve their photos, with two modes: “Angel Mode” for encouraging, positive suggestions and “Devil Mode” for candid, direct critiques. This tool aims to help users present themselves more effectively while maintaining authenticity.
A Begins representative explained the motivation: “What dating app users find most difficult is finding someone who truly fits among countless profiles. Begins aims to provide a matching experience that reflects user tendencies and lifestyle more deeply, recognizing that meetings also need clear standards.”
