Bluesky Rolls Out Much-Requested Drafts Feature

Bluesky has begun rolling out support for post drafts, one of the platform’s most consistently requested features since its public launch in early 2024. The update, announced and deployed in early February 2026, allows users to save unfinished posts for later editing or publishing.

To access drafts, users open the compose flow and tap the “Drafts” button in the top-right corner – mirroring the interface long available on X and Threads. The feature addresses a notable gap: unlike its centralized competitors, Bluesky previously lacked any native way to save in-progress posts, forcing users to rely on external notes or screenshots.

The addition comes as Bluesky continues to scale rapidly, reaching over 42 million total users according to direct API data. Growth has been fueled by users seeking alternatives to X and Threads, particularly after high-profile migrations in 2024–2025. However, the platform has faced criticism for missing baseline social features, including private accounts, longer video support, and now – until this update – drafts.

Bluesky has previously acknowledged the need to prioritize foundational improvements alongside more ambitious roadmap items. In late 2025, the company outlined plans for 2026 that include refining the algorithmic Discover feed, enhancing follow recommendations, and making real-time interactions feel more responsive. The drafts rollout fits into this broader effort to close functional gaps and improve core usability while the decentralized AT Protocol network continues to mature.
