Feeld Releases ‘State of Reflections’ Report On Dating Norms
Feeld has released its State of Reflections, Vol. 1 report alongside a new free self-discovery feature called Reflections. The academically backed study, developed with input from researchers including University of Michigan associate professor Dr. Apryl Williams, surveyed nearly 6,000 people across six continents to expose the disconnect between societal notions of “normal” in desire, relationships, and sexuality versus actual lived experiences.
The report argues that cultural stigma, power dynamics, and silence create an illusion of normalcy, often centered on mainstream heterosexual, cisgender male perspectives. What gets labeled “taboo” is frequently far more common than acknowledged. Key findings highlight this gap:
- Only 25% of the general population considers discussing safe sex “normal,” versus 75% of Feeld members.
- Kink is mainstream, not fringe: 42% of general (non-Feeld) respondents reported engaging in kink, with 44% of kink practitioners favoring role play – higher than even some Feeld users (41%). Among Feeld members, 68% regularly practice kink, underscoring a culture of openness rather than rarity.
- 71% of Feeld members view alternative structures (like ethical non-monogamy) as normal, compared to just 28–29% of external respondents who see them as extremely abnormal.
Feeld launched Reflections in tandem with the report, a 30-minute guided experience available anonymously on the web or in-app, free for members and non-members. It features 165 prompts across three sections: Desires (exploring kinks, fantasies, and interests), Boundaries (red flags, dealbreakers, and safety), and Relationships (communication styles, preferences like non-monogamy). Users receive personalized percentage scores and summaries, with options to share results via custom links for clearer partner discussions.
CEO Ana Kirova described Reflections as embodying Feeld’s ethos of curiosity and self-understanding, noting meaningful connections start with authentic self-knowledge.
