Grindr Tests Premium AI EDGE Subscription Tier
Grindr is piloting a high-end AI-powered subscription tier called EDGE, with randomized pricing in testing reaching as high as $499 per month or $220 per week in some cases. The company detailed the feature set and rollout in a February 3, 2026, blog post by Chief Product Officer AJ Balance.
EDGE is powered by Grindr’s proprietary “gAI” AI stack and targets users seeking a more efficient, high-signal experience. The tier includes three main tools:
- A-List: A recap of meaningful chats, missed connections, and prioritized matches to help re-engage with relevant contacts.
- Discover: Daily personalized profile recommendations aimed at reducing endless scrolling.
- Profile Insights: Additional compatibility signals, including response frequency and activity patterns, to inform messaging decisions.
Balance stated: “Grindr is becoming an AI-first company. EDGE is designed for users who want a more efficient, higher-signal experience – less scrolling, better conversations, and stronger follow-through. ”The pilot began in Australia and New Zealand and is now expanding to select cities in Canada and the United States. Pricing during the test phase is randomized across eligible users, with no fixed rate publicly confirmed. Existing subscription tiers remain unchanged, and EDGE is entirely optional. The company emphasized privacy controls, noting that AI features can be disabled in settings and sensitive health data is excluded from processing.
Grindr described the pilot as a learning phase focused on refining the experience and gauging demand. Early feedback from initial markets has been positive, with the company highlighting strong engagement.
The high price point stands out in a market where premium subscriptions typically range from $10–$50 per month. While EDGE’s focus on AI-driven curation and reduced friction may end up being a big selling point, especially on an app as widespread and user-dense as Grindr, it’s possible that the asking price will be a major barrier to its adoption – unless the intent is to have it be a very limited and exclusive subscription, or something meant to be used in short bursts
