Happn Introduces AI “Perfect Date” Date Planning Feature

Happn is rolling out a feature called Perfect Date, an AI-driven tool aimed at helping users move more easily from in-app conversation to an in-person meetup. The update, announced on November 18, 2025, is designed to address a common friction point in dating apps: choosing where to go for a first date. Perfect date was originally teased and discussed earlier this year in June, with this new release specifically focused on France, Brazil, Turkey and The Netherlands.

According to the company, “No less than 68% of Dutch happn users say they sometimes struggle to find inspiration for a fun date location.” The platform’s data also suggests that more than half of surveyed users would be more inclined to go on a date if the app recommended a venue. Perfect Date is Happn’s attempt to streamline that decision-making process by offering personalised suggestions generated from users’ interests and interactions.

The feature appears directly in the chat after two users form a Crush. From there, daters can choose an area where they’d like to meet, and Happn’s system produces a shortlist of recommended spots. The tool draws on profile details, shared hobbies, and what the company describes as the “preferred vibe” of both individuals. The recommendations are powered by Foursquare’s location database, giving the feature access to a large catalogue of local venues across categories.

Happn positions the tool as “a romantic compass,” emphasising that it does not function as a general city guide but instead tailors results to the emotional tone and personal context of the match. Examples provided include suggestions ranging from a quiet café suited to music lovers to outdoor walks for pairs with nature-oriented profiles.

The timing comes at a point where dating apps are increasingly experimenting with generative AI to provide more personalised experiences, or using conversational AI to streamline the dating process. Competitors such as Tinder and Bumble have introduced AI for profile assistance or safety tools, but venue-recommending features remain rare. Happn itself claims that “no other dating app offers such an integrated, AI-powered feature that deepens connections while guiding users to the perfect first date setting.”
