Hinge Report Explores ADHD Dating Challenges and Needs

Hinge recently released findings from its Love and ADHD D.A.T.E. report, surveying over 60,000 global users, including 9,000 with ADHD. The report highlights the unique challenges that ADHD daters face in the world of online dating, with 75% of them feeling misunderstood by their matches – while also indirectly pointing out that there is an entire untapped market of ADHD users looking for an app that suits their needs.

One of the primary issues ADHD daters encounter is responding to messages. The survey revealed that 43% of ADHD users often forget to reply to matches, while 32% feel that slow responses are misunderstood as disinterest. Many ADHD daters explained that distractions, feelings of being overwhelmed, and repetitive conversations contribute to delayed responses.

Small talk also presents difficulties for ADHD daters, with 31% more likely than neurotypical users to report disliking it. Many ADHD respondents prefer in-person interactions where physical communication plays a larger role. Additionally, the report highlights the intersection of ADHD and LGBTQ+ identities, with 64% of LGBTQ+ ADHD daters expressing anxiety about saying the wrong thing.

While conditions like ADHD are well-documented and fairly widespread, they’re often overlooked when it comes to the dating world. Although it’s only one report, there’s a chance that Hinge’s research could eventually lead to more people with ADHD finding a comfortable way to approach dating – and with supposedly millions of people living all across the world that have undiagnosed ADHD, making dating an easier process for them could be a significant opportunity for growth.
