Jack Dorsey Backs Vine Revival App “diVine”

A new mobile app called diVine has launched, backed by Twitter and Bluesky founder Jack Dorsey through his nonprofit “and Other Stuff,” aiming to resurrect the six-second looping format that made Vine iconic. The relaunch incorporates more than 100,000 archived Vine videos and establishes a new system for users to both browse and contribute fresh content – with a sharp stance against generative AI uploads.

Unlike prior platforms, diVine is built on the open-source decentralised protocol Nostr – favoured by Dorsey – which enables developers to establish their own hosting and media servers. According to Dorsey, that design choice empowers creators and reduces reliance on traditional corporate ownership of social networks. “The reason I funded the non-profit, and Other Stuff, is to allow creative engineers… to show what’s possible in this new world, by using permissionless protocols which can’t be shut down based on the whim of a corporate owner,” he said.

The app also takes a clear position on generative-AI content: uploads suspected of being AI-generated are flagged and prevented from posting. The aim is to maintain user-generated authenticity rather than algorithm-driven mass content. According to diVine’s lead developer, the archive includes “about 150,000 to 200,000” videos from some 60,000 creators – though it admits it did not capture the full breadth of the original Vine catalogue.
