Muzz Sees 20% Traffic Dip During Ramadan, Hopes For Surge

Muzz, the UK-based Muslim dating app focused on marriage-minded connections, experienced a 20% drop in traffic during the early days of Ramadan 2026. As revealed by founder and CEO Shahzad Younas in a recent interview, the decline was most pronounced in Europe and North America, and reflects a common seasonal shift in user priorities during the holy month of fasting and reflection.

“Ramadan is a month of different priorities,” Younas explained. Many users pause or deactivate accounts, cancel premium subscriptions, or simply step back from swiping to concentrate on prayer, family, and spiritual growth. He likened the pattern to mosque attendance: packed in the first days, then gradually tapering off. The dip is far less noticeable in Muslim-majority countries, where cultural and religious routines remain more consistent.

Despite the revenue hit – which Younas described as a “brutal month” for the business – activity began rebounding around the halfway point of Ramadan. Younas is optimistic about an “explosive” return to normal levels during Eid al-Fitr celebrations, when social gatherings and festive energy often reignite interest in finding a life partner.

Muzz, launched in 2015 positions itself as a halal alternative to mainstream dating apps. With over eight million active users worldwide by 2023 and £25 million in turnover in 2024, the platform emphasizes serious intentions, offering features like digital chaperones and a focus on marriage rather than casual dating. During Ramadan, Muzz pivots toward charitable impact. A donation prompt appears while users swipe, directing contributions to vetted causes – this year, users raised over £175,000 to rebuild a hospital in North Darfur.

Younas believes Muzz’s religious orientation and marriage-first approach shield it from the broader revenue and user declines seen on Tinder, Bumble, and other mainstream platforms in recent years. “If you are serious and want to get married, we are the place for you,” he said. “If you want to keep it casual, go somewhere else.”
