Snapchat Retires Standalone Bitmoji App
Snapchat has announced hat it will retire the standalone Bitmoji app effective June 30, 2026. The decision consolidates all Bitmoji functionality into the primary Snapchat experience, reflecting the company’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations and focus resources on its core app and emerging AR initiatives.
Snap acquired Bitmoji creator Bitstrips in 2016 and has since integrated the customizable avatars deeply into Snapchat. Bitmoji stickers, fashion items, and keyboard extensions are now widely used within the app for messaging, Stories, and other interactions. With most engagement already occurring inside Snapchat, Snap stated that maintaining a separate Bitmoji app is no longer necessary.
“Starting on June 30, 2026, the Bitmoji app will no longer be available … We’ll be bringing more Bitmoji experiences into the Snapchat app, so make sure to download Snapchat to continue accessing Bitmoji stickers, fashion, and the keyboard.” Users can still share Bitmoji content via the Snapchat app, and depending on their device, they may retain access through the Snapchat keyboard extension or iOS Messages integration.
Existing Bitmoji accounts remain linked to Snapchat profiles, allowing users to preserve their avatars without disruption. Snap emphasized continuity: Bitmoji stickers and related features will stay fully supported within the main app.
Bitmoji remains a significant engagement driver. Snapchat reports over 2.7 billion avatars created to date and 320 million daily users interacting with them. Recent updates underscore their popularity: in November 2025, Snap revived classic 2D Bitmoji styles following a petition with over 100,000 signatures. In February 2026, a new Lens allowed premium subscribers to generate realistic Bitmoji versions of themselves. October 2025 introduced Bitmoji Plaza, a digital town center where users’ avatars can interact in shared spaces.
