Spark Launches With Built-In Date Venue Booking

A new entrant in the Southeast Asian dating market is attempting to fix one of online dating’s oldest problems: endless chatting that rarely leads to an actual date. The app, called Spark, has officially launched in Singapore and Thailand, promising to bridge what its founders call the “outcome gap” — where matches fail to turn into real-life meetings.

Spark’s CEO and founder, Sunny Khurana, created the app after watching a friend struggle to form genuine connections on traditional platforms. “Dating apps optimize for swipes, not actual dates,” he explained. The goal, Khurana says, is to move users from digital small talk to in-person experiences seamlessly, with safety and trust built in.

Unlike most dating platforms, Spark integrates venue booking directly into the app, eliminating the need for users to coordinate logistics separately. The app allows daters to send one-tap invitations for curated experiences, while Spark’s system automatically manages availability, reservations, and reminders. Through partnerships with local services such as Hungry Hub and TicketMelon, users can access live venue inventory and book from a curated “Best Date List” of approved restaurants, cafés, and activities.

Safety is a key focus, particularly for women. Spark employs photo and ID verification, along with in-app safety tools and a “women-first” approach to user experience. Its matching system prioritizes intent and shared interests over swiping volume, helping daters identify compatible partners who are ready to meet.

Currently available in Singapore and Bangkok, Spark targets urban professionals aged 24 to 45. The company projects annual revenue of about US$1.5 million across both markets, driven by commissions on bookings, membership tiers, and optional in-app boosts.
