The Weekend Club Pushes Offline Brunch as Dating App Alternative

A social platform named The Weekend Club (also WKND CLUB) is positioning itself as a date-app alternative by using AI to arrange offline brunch meetups. Rather than relying on endless swiping, its format brings together small groups of six people every weekend in person.

Participants share their availability, interests, language preferences, and how comfortable they feel meeting new people. Then, The Weekend Club’s algorithm uses those inputs to seat balanced, diverse groups in quality venues. After brunch, attendees optionally provide quick feedback that helps the system refine future matches.

According to the company, it has already hosted over 10,000 AI-matched brunch tables globally. The service runs in several cities – including Taipei, Hong Kong, Seoul, Singapore, Vienna, and Los Angeles – with plans for further expansion.

One of the key distinctions of The Weekend Club is its offline-first design. Phones are expected to remain down during the gathering, and there’s no push for one-on-one matches. The aim is to promote natural conversation, not to replicate dating-app behaviors. Notably, the platform also isn’t inherently just focused on dating, instead pushing for normal social interaction’s able to freely evolve without any expectations looming overhead.

To help manage safety and maintain a respectful environment, the platform also uses a “Blacklist-as-Design” system with five risk tiers. Users who show risky behavior—such as frequent no-shows, negative feedback, or lack of verification – may be assigned a higher tier, which affects their cost to join future events.

Jennifer Wang, The Weekend Club’s CEO, frames the concept as a way to “let AI do the logistics and table design, so humans can do what they do best—share food, trade stories, and build real ties—without living inside an app.” Early attendees reportedly walk away from their first tables with a mix of outcomes: new friendships, professional connections, or even romantic sparks.
