Two-Thirds of Dating App Users Concerned About Safety
A recent survey conducted by DatingNews.com has highlighted significant concerns among online dating users regarding the safety measures implemented by dating platforms. According to the survey, 66% of participants expressed a lack of trust in dating apps’ ability to protect them from fraud and dangerous individuals. This sentiment was consistent across various age groups, with Gen Z exhibiting the highest level of skepticism at 71%, followed by Boomers at 69%, Gen X at 63%, and Millennials at 62%.
The survey also identified specific safety concerns among users. The most prevalent issues included fake profiles and catfishing (35%), stalking or harassment (17%), romance scams or financial fraud (16%), and data privacy and personal information leaks (13%). Interestingly, while a majority of users desire enhanced security features, such as mandatory identity verification and secure messaging, only 61% indicated a willingness to pay for these services. Furthermore, 28% of respondents believed that basic security measures should be provided free of charge.
Support for additional safety features was notably high among users. Approximately 81% of participants favored some form of identity verification to ensure safer interactions. Moreover, 62% expressed approval for the introduction of a post-date review system to enhance transparency and accountability within the dating experience.
This falls in line with the recent surveys about users and their opinions on verification, with more than 80% of the surveyed users wanting more verification overall. While this was partially to combat scams, which many users were understandably concerned about, a surprising number even offered to pay for their own background checks as a premium feature if it meant increased security.
