WhatsApp Expands AI Features with Smart Reply Drafting

WhatsApp has announced several significant updates that further integrate Meta AI into the messaging platform to enhance user experience and convenience. The most notable addition is an upgraded “Writing Help” feature that now generates AI-powered suggested replies based on the context of ongoing conversations.

Originally launched in August 2025 for rephrasing, proofreading, and tone adjustment, the enhanced Writing Help aims to help users craft messages more effectively. Users can access it by tapping the chat bar, selecting the stickers icon, and choosing the AI pencil icon. Meta emphasizes that chats remain private even when using the feature, addressing potential concerns about data usage in personal conversations.

The update reflects Meta’s broader strategy to keep users within the WhatsApp ecosystem rather than turning to external AI tools like ChatGPT for drafting messages. However, the company acknowledges that not all users will embrace AI-generated text in personal or family chats, where authenticity remains highly valued.

Additional practical improvements include a new space management tool that allows users to identify and delete large files within individual chats without clearing entire conversation histories. This targeted approach helps free up storage while preserving important messages.

WhatsApp has also introduced Meta AI-powered photo editing directly in chats. Users can now remove distracting elements, change backgrounds, or apply new styles to images before sending them. Sticker suggestions have been enhanced as well, with the app recommending relevant stickers as users type emojis for quicker, more expressive communication.
