53% Of Indian Singles Skipped Valentine’s Day Altogether

In a fresh take on modern dating, Aisle Network – India’s homegrown app dedicated to meaningful relationships – has released its “Better Because of Love” report, based on insights from over 5,800 Indian singles. Released ahead of Valentine’s Day, the study highlights a cultural evolution: romance is shifting from spectacle and pressure to intentional growth, emotional clarity, and everyday authenticity.

A striking 53% of respondents now view Valentine’s Day as just another day, signaling declining hype and social expectations around the holiday. This detachment is especially notable among women, with zero reporting pressure compared to a small fraction of men. Instead of grand gestures, many – notably, 54% of women – favor consistent acts of service and practical compatibility.

An impressive 84% of Indians say past relationships have made them better people. Key areas of growth include greater patience (63.6%), improved communication (49.1%), boosted confidence (44.2%), and heightened self-awareness (40.1%). Communication preferences reflect this maturity: 50% of women prefer clear words over emojis when flirting, moving away from playful but ambiguous symbols like the See-No-Eye Monkey, more favored by men and Gen Z.

Aisle’s Head Chandni Gaglani notes, “Singles today aren’t chasing dramatic gestures; they seek relationships that feel safe, steady, and help them grow.” Expert Arouba Kabir adds that what appears as indifference is actually emotional maturity – love as an enhancer to an already fulfilling life, not a completion. Detachment from Valentine’s Day may be just another part of this shift in dating approach.
