Black Dating App BLK Launches Events Feature in 29 US Cities
Match Group-owned dating app BLK has launched an Events feature across 29 US cities, giving Black singles a new way to meet offline. The rollout follows a test in Atlanta this summer.
Users can discover nearby events, reserve a spot, invite friends and see who else plans to attend. They can connect with other attendees before, during and after an event, including matching with people through the app. The feature is available in cities including Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Miami.
BLK says 65% of eligible active users engaged with the Events tab during the Atlanta test, which began on August 7. The app has more than 13 million downloads. BLK research found that 60% of singles prefer meeting people in shared spaces, while six in 10 said they do not know where to go to meet new people.
The launch is part of a wider Events strategy at Match Group. Tinder introduced its own Events feature earlier this year, and Match Group previously said the technology behind it would be used to power Events on BLK and potentially other apps.
